Careers Education & Guidance has a high priority at the Centre, and we were in fact the first school in Somerset to achieve the award of the Somerset Standard for our work in this area. In practice this means that Staff at the Centre place great emphasis on the preparation for post-school life, and we will offer every assistance in that preparation. It is our aim that when a student leaves us, they do so with a clear destination, a complete Record of Achievement and a firm belief in their own success.
All students have open access to the Careers area and the opportunity for one to one guidance and help from staff. In Yr 11 all students meet with our dedicated CIAG officer, who will assist them as they make decisions about possible career paths when they leave school.
At Tor we hope all students will undertake a period of suitable quality Work Experience at some point during the School year; the placement will be negotiated between the Student, Work Experience Co-ordinator and Tutor, and will adhere to County recommendations on Health & Safety; the aim being to provide students with a positive experience of the World of Work and stimulate ideas/discussions about post 16 opportunities.
Work Experience may also be accredited and provide students with an opportunity to add to GCSE Coursework folders. All students can expect to be visited at least once during each placement by the Work Experience Co-ordinator or by another member of our staff team.
