At Tor School, we endeavour to foster a love of language and reading as well as developing pupil’s abilities to communicate effectively in a wide range of contexts.
Our English curriculum intends to provide students with the spoken, written and communication skills needed to live rewarding and successful lives. We have an emphasis on literacy and bridging the gaps in the young person's learning, in a way that both challenges and repairs their confidence. In addition to developing reading and literacy skills we have designed the curriculum to ensure that our young people are taught to write for a range of purposes and given regular opportunities to improve upon their writing. We ensure we expose them to a wide range of vocabulary, both explicitly during lessons and through the texts studied.
|
Through our offer of a robust and varied English curriculum, we aim to increase pupil’s academic attainment and pupils will leave Tor School with an increased confidence in their literacy, written and language skills in order to communicate and thrive in their lives.
Teachers will model reading at the beginning of every lesson, followed with a SPAG starter and a reading / writing main task.
|
Each young person will be given a reading and writing baseline assessment which will be reassessed every half term or upon departure to measure progress |
